Solar Ventilation System*
When activated, the Solar Ventilation System can power an internal fan, cooling the car inside while parked in direct sunlight.
Park in the sun to keep your car cool. Solar panels embedded in the Prius roof run an internal fan which ejects the hot air that can build up inside your car. This means the temperature in your parked car is kept closer to the ambient temperature outside. * Solar Ventilation System is only available with the i-Tech™ model only.
Touch Tracer Display
Keep your eyes on the road, not on your wheel - Touch Tracer controls are a world first.
In the Prius, any control or function you touch on the steering wheel Touch Tracer controls will show up on the dashboard display in front of you. That means you can search for a radio station, control the air conditioning and check your energy consumption without glancing at the wheel.
Head Up Display (HUD)
The information you need - where you can see it.
Once only used in jet fighters, a Head Up Display (HUD) is now a standard feature in the Prius. Your speed, the hybrid system indicator, and even navigation information on the i-Tech™ can be projected on the windscreen just below your line of sight. It comes with controls that allow you to adjust the brightness and position of the projected HUD image.
Multi Information Display
Keep an eye on your efficiency. Visualise the way you drive, and how it can impact your fuel usage.
The Multi Information display combines an energy monitor, a hybrid system indicator and a fuel consumption monitor. Together these three displays provide moment by moment feedback on your fuel efficiency, the car’s power flow and its response to your driving style.
Remote Air-Conditioning System*
A short burst of air-conditioned cool air, powered by the hybrid battery, provides an instant relief to the cabin temperature.
In a true world first, turn on the air-conditioning just by pushing the A/C button on your key fob as you approach the Prius. For up to three minutes a burst of cool air will cool the cabin. Best of all, you don’t have to start your car to make it work.
* i-Tech™ model only

Dynamic Radar Cruise Control System*
Keep your distance with preset safe following distances between you and the car in front. Radar Cruise Control maintains a preset following distance between you and the car in front.
Using a range of built in sensors the system continually monitors the speed of the car ahead and automatically adjusts the speed of the Prius accordingly. When there's no car in front, normal cruise control cuts in, keeping you at a regular preset speed.
*Available on i-Tech™ model only.
Pre-Collision Safety System*
Smart enough to warn you if an accident is likely. Quick enough to take action if it’s unavoidable.
Using sensors in the front bumper, the system calculates the distance and relative speed of the car in front and will warn you if an accident is likely – so you can slow down. If an accident becomes unavoidable the system snaps into action – the brake is applied and seatbelts are tightened – reducing the impact on the car and the people inside it.
*Pre-Collision Safety System is designed as a driver assist device only and should not be used as a substitute for skilled driving. The driver should continue to monitor the road ahead when using the Pre-Collision Safety System. Available on i-Tech™ model only. Overseas model shown
Dual airbags standard
Intelligent Parking Assist (IPA)* Parking isn't always easy. But with Intelligent Parking Assist*, Prius does the hard work for you.
Intelligent Parking Assist makes parking easy. Pull alongside a space, hit the button, and a sensor will measure the target area. Check it's safe to go, take your hands off the wheel and let the Prius do the rest. You'll just need to softly tread on the brake at the right moment. It works for both parallel and perpendicular parking.
* Intelligent Parking Assist is designed as a driver assist device only and should not be used as a substitute for skilled driving or safe parking practices. The driver should watch the area into which the vehicle is to be reversed when using Intelligent Parking Assist. Intelligent Brake Assist requires brake control.
*Optional on Prius with Navigation Pack and standard on i-Tech™ model.
Emergency Brake Signal
An emergency brake signal warns the driver behind you and could save you both from a potential collision.
Emergency brake signals can dramatically cut the chances of a rear-end collision. That's why they come standard in a Prius. If you have to brake suddenly, the traffic behind you is alerted by flashing brakelights. Research shows that this can improve reaction times in drivers by around 50%.
7 SRS Airbags
Standard on every Prius is a formidable airbag system - protecting all occupants should an accident be unavoidable.
Inside a Prius, the driver and passengers are surrounded by 7 airbags to help protect and cushion them in the event of an emergency. This includes driver and front passenger airbags, driver's knee airbag, front & rear curtain airbags and front driver & passenger side airbags.
Brake by Wire technology
Prius features ingenius Brake by Wire technology for improved braking control and performance. The system balances braking force between all four wheels and includes ABS and BA technologies.
The Prius Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) balances the braking force between all four wheels - keeping you in control in slippery conditions or when braking heavily. Brake Assist adds extra force to the brake in an emergency.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC)
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with Traction Control (TRC) is a system that anticipates and controls skidding when cornering.
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) stops you slipping if you lose traction around a corner. Traction Control (TRC) ensures the Prius grips the road - providing better manoeuvrability when accelerating, turning or braking.

Aerodynamics
The sleek lines and sweeping roof of the Prius are not just for show - they provide efficiency benefits as well. From the front bumper to the rear spoiler, every ridge and corner of the Prius optimises airflow over, under and around the car. The car is designed to slip through the air - saving fuel and emissions. The industry measures aerodynamics by a car's drag co-efficient (Cd). The Prius Cd of 0.25 is among the lowest you'll find for any production car.
Ecological trim
Prius is the first car in the world to use a plant-based plastic for some interior trim. The Toyota-developed Eco-Plastic emits 20% less CO2 than standard plastic over its lifetime. You’ll find trims and scuff boards are made from plant-derived plastic, while sound proofing and the driver’s side seat cushion are made from a combination of recycled materials.
Smart entry and start System
With smart entry and start you just have to have the key with you to get moving. No more fumbling. You can keep your key in your pocket or bag when unlocking and starting your Prius. The car senses the key when you're close enough - so you just need to clasp the driver door to unlock it and tap the power button to start the car.
60:40 split retractable rear seats
Drop either rear seat, or both, to create storage space big enough for your bike, board or shopping. With 60:40 split retractable rear seats you can get the combo right for whatever cargo you're carrying. Load up with luggage and comfortably seat up to three passengers in the back as well.

Superior Hybrid Synergy Drive technology
Uncompromised. Efficient. Dynamic. Hybrid Synergy Drive is the world’s most advanced hybrid technology.
Toyota has refined the 3rd Generation Hybrid Synergy Drive to create a lighter, more efficient system. Prius uses both a petrol engine and an electric motor and switches seamlessly between the two or uses them simultaneously to deliver the best performance for any condition. The result? Lower emissions and up to 50% better fuel economy than a similarly sized conventional petrol vehicle.
Three alternative driving modes
Efficient, Powerful or Economical - choose a driving mode that suits your mood or the conditions you’re in.
The Prius allows you to set the driving mode to suit your driving mood, or on-road situation. Need power on the freeway? Switch to Power Mode. Driving slowly down quiet streets? Switch to EV Mode to use battery power only (and produce zero emissions). And for general city driving, switch Prius to Eco Mode for uncompromised efficiency.
EV Mode
Switch to EV Mode for near-silent, emission-free driving.
With sufficient charge in the battery you can also use the electric motor, at speeds up to 50km/h, for those times when you’d like to be a little quieter. No fuel used. No emissions.
Eco Mode
Switch to Eco Mode for the best fuel economy across all driving conditions.
In Eco Mode the car uses its 1.8L petrol engine in synergy with its electric motor. Accelerator pedal response is controlled and air conditioning is tuned to improve fuel economy. By using Eco mode and monitoring how much your foot pushes the pedal, you can reduce your fuel consumption by 10-15%.
Power Mode
Want responsive power when you ask for it? Switch to Power Mode.
In Power Mode the accelerator response is amplified by up to 25%. Seamless power comes from the 1.8L petrol engine, supported by the 60kW electric motor providing power when you need it most.
First beltless Toyota engine
Better fuel economy, less maintenance and quieter. That's why the Prius has gone beltless.
Prius’ new beltless configuration means better fuel economy, no adjustments and less potential maintenance. The power steering, air conditioning and water pump are all electrically driven, and there is no alternator. It’s not only more fuel efficient, it means you’ll never need to replace a belt again – in your car, that is.
Shift by wire
Change gears electrically rather than mechanically for better efficiency and a more enjoyable drive.
Shift by wire gears are more responsive, more reliable and take up less room in the cabin. But most importantly, they are light-weight, provide greater fuel efficiency, and allow smoother, seamless gear changes to make it a more enjoyable drive.
